After somehow counting 250,000 gold coins in just a few minutes, I suggest the following currency system. It's mainly for realistic time and weight's sake and also for having a standard tender worth less than gold without having to bother with silver and copper.

Gold coins can be cut in half to form the "half gold" coin.

4 Half Golds = 1 Gold coin (to discourage the destruction of existing currency)
100 Gold coins = 1 Platinum coin
100 Platinum coins = 1 Electrum coin
